Joeri Goedertier
Achievements
Born in Belgium, Joeri Goedertier has spent over three decades at the pinnacle of protection dog training, breeding, and K9 sport. With a career spanning continents and disciplines, Joeri is globally recognized for his uncompromising standards and remarkable accomplishments across IPO/IGP, French Ring, breeding, and military working dog programs.
Sporting Excellence
A fierce competitor and meticulous trainer, Joeri has titled over 100 dogs in the demanding world of IPO/IGP. His achievements include:
- Playing over 100 times at IPO3, the highest level of the sport.
- Personally titling 11 dogs to IPO3: Rottweilers, Malinois, and German Shepherds.
- Successfully titling over 40 dogs to IPO1 and more than 50 dogs to ZTP (breed suitability test).
- Titled 6 dogs to their lifetime Körung, including the first-ever foreign dogs to compete in the German Körung, making history by earning the highest results for both a male and female, trained exclusively by him.
In French Ring, Joeri pushed boundaries again. He trained the only German Shepherd in U.S. history to reach French Ring 3. His Malinois have shined as well, with several achieving FR1 titles, including a standout female who scored 198.7/200, the highest FR1 score in the country.
Decoy, Track Layer, and Judge
A master technician across multiple working roles:
- Certified FCI decoy, Joeri has decoyed at elite events including multiple Rottweiler National IPO Championships and the USA SchH HOT All-Breed Tournament.
- He was the first foreign decoy ever invited to work the German Rottweiler Körung — a testament to his skill and international respect.
- As a certified FCI track layer, Joeri has laid tracks at National Championships (FH2) and World Championships for Rottweilers.
- A licensed IPO judge, International Breed Judge, and Kormeister (conformation master judge) for Rottweilers, he has presided over numerous National and North American Championships.
World-Class Breeder
Under the Redwood Krest kennel name, Joeri built a breeding program known for producing championship-caliber Rottweilers:
- His kennel earned the prestigious World Champion Kennel Group title.
- He bred the first American-born Rottweiler to pass the German ZTP in Germany.
- His program produced 38 National Sieger(in) titleholders and 4 World Sieger champions.
- Dogs bred by Joeri have won over 500 championships worldwide, in countries such as Germany, France, Belgium, Finland, South Korea, China, Russia, USA, Argentina, and more.
Military & Law Enforcement Expertise
With a background forged in elite service, Joeri served as:
- K9 Operator in the Belgian Special Operations Forces (1991–1997)
- K9 Handler for the Belgian Secret Service National Intervention Team (1997–1998)
- Chief Instructor for the Secret Service Police Dogs and Special Units (1999–2004)
His certifications include:
- Certified K9 handler, kennel master, detection dog trainer/handler, MWD decoy, and chief instructor
- Head Trainer of the Belgian National Intervention K9 Unit and Special Ops Projects
Personal Life
Joeri moved to the United States in 2002, where he owned and operated Redwood Krest K9 LLC and trained elite protection dogs until January 2024. He resides between properties in Battle Ground, Washington, and Whitesboro, Texas.
Joeri has been married since 2001 and is the proud father of two children: Jagger, a junior at Baylor University, and Anaïs, a junior at Texas A&M. His wife is a breeder of world-class reining horses.
Fluent in English, French, German, Dutch, Flemish, and South African Afrikaans, Joeri continues to consult, train, and mentor internationally. He carries with him an unmatched legacy in the world of working and protection dogs.
