Watch Billie Richardson teach her young loose-eyed dog how to start the drive. Billie likes to get a dog comfortable with the drive before she works on inside flanks. In this video she explains:

  • The importance of getting a dog used to looking at the sheep’s butts.
  • Why the drive has less satisfaction for a herding dog than the fetch.
  • How she uses the fence to teach the dog to hold a line on the drive.
  • How to build comfort with the dog moving sheep off the handler.
  • How to position yourself in order to help the dog.
  • and much more!

Full BioVideos

Billie Richardson has been a mechanical engineering consultant for the past 28 years in Calgary, Canada. While Billie never grew up on a farm, she remembers being amazed after watching the Calgary Stampede World Stockdog Championship many years ago and how they could get a 2 year old dog to maneuver around with whistles! She now has a small farm outside of Okotoks, raising sheep, goats and, in her words, "a few useless chickens".
