Another fantastic video from the Women’s Only Clinic in Owasso, Oklahoma. In this segment, Laura Stimatze helps a clinic participant with a dog that had never been to balance. This is the third work on this dog at the clinic and she presents a challenge of overly avoiding some pressure but still trying to grip the cattle too much. While Laura helps the participant overcome these challenges we also learn:

  • How to get the dog to the balance position.
  • How to allow her to walk up politely onto the stock after the dog gets the “there” command correctly.
  • How to apply the correction before the altercation not during.
  • To praise the dog when it is working correctly.
  • To use smooth corrections rather than abrupt ones.
  • To work in a way that maintains the already established drive even when working on balance.
  • To not be afraid to go back to a line or small pen to teach the dog to accept more pressure.
  • How to keep a dog working correctly even while trying to perform a job.
  • And much more!
