- Let him play for a minute on the lead.
- Get him to keep the goats together when turning him loose on the stock.
- Make sure pup moves away from the tool in your hand before you turn him loose.

- Know what to do if the pup makes a mess of things.
- Suggest where the pup should go, NOT insist.
- Assesses a pup at this stage.
- Use the fence to help get a stop.
- Catch the pup and leave the stock.
