Jeff Christiansen demonstrates how he approaches the challenge of teaching young dogs, with no previous exposure to being led, to accept the leash while also trying to extinguish unwanted learned behaviors. Watch step number one on day 1 when two five-month old siblings come in for training. In this video, Jeff works with the male pup and teaches why he:

  • Lets the dog wear a collar a few days before working.
  • Prefers to work with collar pressure rather than slip leads at first.
  • Uses bumps rather than steady pulls.
  • Stays neutral when the dogs are performing unwanted behaviors.
  • Rewards mental tries.
  • And much more!
